Spent the Bank holiday weekend here...and left very disappointed.
As an avid angler and being the main reason for booking here, I anticipated a weekend of combat with the fish stocked in the lakes.
However, from the moment my wife and I arrived things quickly went down hill. We booked in at the on-site tackle shop which doubles up as reception.
We were allocated a tent pitch with electric and given our pitch number.
We went to find our pitch, but there were no pitch markers. We noted that on the hook-up post we inspected that it was numbered 1 - 4 , so we then laid out the tent and began to erect it. Once pitched we noticed that the other 3 hook-up posts were also numbered 1 - 4 !
When one of the site workers approached us and asked us to move our car to accommodate another group, I asked him how the pitches were organised, He responded with " Well the first post is for pitches 1-4, the second post marked 1-4 is for pitches 5-8, the next post numbered 1-4 is for pitches 9-12, I thought that was obvious!"....really?
How about some pitch markers guys or someone showing you to your pitch......maybe some grass marking? Further arrivals pitched basically where they wanted...it did get a bit intimate with our neighbours less then four metres from us!
Anyway after a fair nights sleep, I looked forward to a 'Fishing Saturday'.
I went to the tackle shop to purchase a day ticket...£5, not bad really!
I then noticed that there were match competitions on all lakes except Jack's Pool. Where was it...the furthest away from our pitch on the other side of the complex! To drag all my gear over was going to be a right mission. I thought, maybe I'd fish later, after the matches were over and in the lake closest to our tent. Well, I was still waiting at 4-pm to get on the lake...I finally started fishing at 5-30,after the match-men had left after 'weighing in'. I then realised that I was paying £5 for a day ticket to fish for 2.5 hours. May I suggest that half day tickets are made available.
Oh! i caught four fish by the way.
Although I could almost touch the lake from my pitch, I had to walk down one side of a fence through an entry gate and back up again about 400 metres!
The fences are four feet tall, topped by barbed wire and also include chicken mesh fencing, a bit over the top really. I was told by a man in the know that this was to keep mink out. The fence was in fact only 3/4 metres from the lake edge and using a pole seemed to be a challenge for most of the match-men... I did hear one or two of them moaning that their poles were getting scratched by the barb-wire, not funny when you are paying £2000 for it!.
So why not install spring back gates along the fence line chaps

Sunday came, more competitions on the lake....Jack's Pool was open again...had a look before purchasing a day ticket..no pegs available...decided not to buy a ticket...went to LLangollen for the day

Monday morning...got up...more competitions on the lakes...just couldn't be bothered'

    PLUS POINTS .....
Shower/toilet block, very modern, good supply of hot water, showers good, but trays very slippy! Seemed to be a ration on toilet paper first thing in the morning

Very scenic, but piles of logs and other rubble seemed to be left lying around for no apparent reason

Nice clubhouse...try the Stowford press (to die for) courteous staff.

    The weather was good!

We realise that the complex is still 'work in progress and that the main purpose is to provide fishing for the connoisseur. There seems to be a lot going on.

    Good luck for the future
